Campanella & Sons management canceled all work on Wednesday, as counselors helped employees cope with the loss of Thomas Lee, a 20-year mechanic with the Wadsworth company. "Everyone here loved him," said Campanella & Sons President Susan Zupec. Lee was one of six Campanella employees working on Splash Waterfalls Tuesday morning, Zupec said.

Death of amusement park worker probed

CHICAGO, March 12 (UPI) -- A federal investigation began Wednesday into the death of a crew member trying to dismantle a ride at an suburban Chicago amusement park. Thomas Lee, 46, suffered fatal head and chest injuries after he fell more than 40 feet Tuesday while taking apart the Splash Water Falls ride at Six Flags Great America, The Chicago Tribune said.

Bill to tighten regulation of amusement park rides passes Senate

Potential fines would increase tenfold and the age of amusement park ride operators would rise under a bill the Kentucky Senate has passed unanimously. Kaitlyn Lasitter's father, Randy Lasitter, told the newspaper letting someone under 18 operate such complex rides gives them "too much responsibility."

Kentucky lawmakers are taking steps aimed at improving the safety of amusement rides in the wake of a grisly accident last year that severed the feet of a girl at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture, which inspects amusement park rides, is awaiting tests on a cable from the ride to determine what caused it to snap. Sen. Trucker gets jail for fatal crash RAWLINS -- A judge has sentenced a Wisconsin truck driver to two years in jail for an Interstate 80 crash that killed two Rawlins residents. Tory Thomas, a state traffic engineer, wrote Teton County planners last week and said a traffic analysis prepared by developers of the Teton Meadows Ranch subdivision is "enigmatic and misleading."
