Paraglider crash caused by winds

A paraglider accident in the Yorkshire Dales in which the pilot was killed was caused by strong winds, accident investigators have reported. "At the time of the subsequent accident to the paraglider, most of the competition pilots had landed and conditions were described as turbulent, with lively thermal conditions."

Adam Air may be shut down after string of accidents

The anouncement follows the news yesterday that an Adam Air Boeing 737-400 had overshot the runway at Batam island's airport, injuring five of the over 170 people on board. On New Years day 2007 Adam Air Flight 574 crashed into the ocean near Sulawesi, leaving 102 missing, presumed dead. The Adam Air accidents accounted for two of the three main accidents that caused the European Union to ban Indonesian airlines from EU airspace last year over safety standards.

Helicopter accident being investigated

An air accident investigation was under way last night after five passengers and two pilots luckily escaped injury when their helicopter was involved in a collision as it came in to land on a gas platform 50 miles off Yarmouth. The helicopter is normally based on the platform As an investigation by the Department for Transport's air accidents investigation branch (AAIB) got under way, all those involved were marooned on the platform as helicopter flights were grounded by yesterday's storm.
