Ban on torture would enhance US standing

President Bush has repeatedly denied that the U.S. used torture, but as defined by international law, to which the U.S. is a signatory, these techniques constitute torture. Where this is different is that torture is being sanctioned at the highest levels of the U.S. government to the extreme detriment of this nation's ability to occupy the moral high ground that Americans are fond of claiming.

Abu Ghraib documentary to premiere at Berlinale

BERLIN: A motion picture about the prisoner abuse scandal at Iraq's Abu Ghraib jail will become the first documentary ever to enter the competition at the Berlin Film Festival next month, organizers said Tuesday. The festival's sprawling sidebar sections will feature Indian hit "Om Shanti Om" with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and a documentary on the godmother of punk Patti Smith - both of whom will also perform live.
