The image of warm, homemade cookies and milk greeting a youngster after school probably is trapped, like a fly in amber, in the Beaver Cleaver era. Beacon Hill cookies, a delicate kind of chocolate-walnut meringue, and Aunt Frances' date-nut bars were special-occasion sweets, whipped up for holiday parties or wedding showers.
