New Indonesia quake prompts brief tsunami alert

JAKARTA (Reuters) - A fresh earthquake struck off western Sumatra on Tuesday in the wake of strong tremors the day before, triggering another tsunami alert, Indonesia's meteorology agency said. Suharjono, head of the agency's quake division, said many areas had felt Tuesday's quake but there was no information so far on any possible damage. The same area was hit by a more powerful quake of magnitude 8.4 in September last year that killed at least 25 people and toppled thousands of homes.
