NB environmental group concerned over proposed aquaculture site

David Thompson of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick says the proposed site is too close to the Musquash marine protected area and would present a hazard to the sensitive ecosystem there. "This presents a dual problem, not only to the protected area but also to the only significant salmon stocks on the Atlantic coast remaining," Thompson said Monday. Limekiln Fisheries has applied for an aquaculture permit, but Thompson said the federal Fisheries Department should never have allowed an application to use the area for industrial purposes.
