Design Notebook: San Luis Kitchen gets a much-needed home

Contemporary cabinetry often makes a kitchen. At right, tiny cabinet pulls don't detract from the design of these cabinets. These techniques are behind the re-emergence of white painted cabinets, which take on a new life with rich glazes. Another retro look - cabinets with glass at the top portion of each door - has practical benefits. In addition to their showroom in the San Luis Obispo Idler's, which will remain open, the company has completed phase one of its new shop. San Luis Kitchen's Lakeshore kitchen sports a retro 1930s-cottage look. And the company's Get Away kitchen features heartwood maple cabinets, quartz countertops and a stone backslash, "ideal for a rustic cabin as it is fitting to a coastal condo," Day said.
