Redfield punches production numbers after beef workshop

Alan Redfield has been punching numbers lately trying to determine what his cost of production is for a pound of beef raised on the Warfield family ranch near Pray, Mont. "We have requested the Fish Wildlife and Parks Service be there because in the brucellosis management plan we have in hand, it says they (FWP officials) are to keep the elk separated from the cattle from Jan. 1 through June 1, and we're going to ask them to do that." The Fish Wildlife and Parks Service has yet to put forth a good effort to work with ranchers in the area on wildlife control, said Redfield. Redfield said the ranch received 14 inches of snow last week, which shrunk down to about eight inches last Sunday.
