Cool festivities keep action hot for skiers in Colorado

It's no secret that temperatures at Colorado's ski resorts can be the coldest in January. The celebration will be Jan. 10-13 and feature 30 events in downtown Aspen, Snowmass Village and the resort quartet of Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass. Resort 's Jan. 26-27 Winter Fest and Mary Jane Birthday Bash will combine on-mountain fun with a parade, parties, music and fireworks in the nearby town of Winter Park. New at bookstores is Backcountry Skiing: Skills for Ski Touring and Ski Mountaineering (Mountaineer Books, $19.95). New Mexico's Red River Resort will host its annual Bargain Days Jan. 1-31 and College Days Jan. 1-15.
